چکیده

This paper proposes a research direction to study the development ofàrtii-cial social intelligence' of autonomous robots which should result inìndividual-ized robot societies'. The approach is highly inspired by thèsocial intelligence hypothesis', derived from the investigation of primate societies, suggesting that primate intelligence originally evolved to solve social problems and was only later extended to problems outside the social domain. We suggest that it might be a general principle in the evolution of intelligence, applicable to both natural and artiicial systems. Arguments are presented why the investigation of social intelligence for artifacts is not only an interesting research issue for the study of biological principles, but may be a necessary prerequisite for those scenarios in which autonomous robots are integrated into human societies, interacting and communicating both with humans and with each other. As a starting point to study experimentally the development of robots' `social relationships', the investigation of collection and use of body images by means of imitation is proposed. A speciic experimental setup which we use to test the theoretical considerations is described. The paper outlines in what kind of applications and for what kind of robot group structures social intelligence might be advantageous.

A topology control algorithm for autonomous underwater robots in three-dimensional space using PSO

Recently, data collection from seabed by means of underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSN) has attracted considerable attention. Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are increasingly used as UWSNs in underwater missions. Events and environmental parameters in underwater regions have a stochastic nature. The target area must be covered by sensors to observe and report events. A ‘topology cont...

Analysis of Multi-Robots Transportation with Multi-objective PSO Algorithm in an Artificial Capital Market

In this paper, to analyze the transport of autonomous robots, an artificial Capital market is used. Capital market is considered as a pier which loading and unloading of cargo is done. Autonomous robots load and unload from the ship to the warehouse wharf or vice versa. All the robots have the ability of transporting the loads, but depending on loads and the location of unloading (or loading) a...

Towards Social Intelligence in Autonomous Robotics: A Review

This paper aims to provide grounding for the development of social intelligence in autonomous mobile robots by highlighting that little has been done in developing an explicit social framework for a team of robots engaged in collaborative work. Only recently has work been undertaken on developing social attributes and functionality in robotics [23] [16]. This review provides a somewhat historic...

Issues in Assessing Performance of Social Robots

How can the performance of a social robot be measured? Are existing metrics and techniques appropriate for physically and socially embodied autonomous mobile robots? With the rapid expansion of robust robotic systems from strong industrial applications to domestic and entertainment domains which naturally involve social interactions, a requirement to gauge a system’s abilities either individual...

A Neural Schema System Architecture for Autonomous Robots

As autonomous robots become more complex in their behavior, more sophisticated software architectures are required to support the ever more sophisticated robotics software. These software architectures must support complex behaviors involving adaptation and learning, implemented, in particular, by neural networks. We present in this paper a neural based schema [2] system architecture for the de...
